Approximately 90 Delta State students, staff, and faculty enjoyed an afternoon of motivation from award-winning songwriter and performer Steve Azar at the recent “Conversation with Entrepreneurs,” a lecture series presented by Delta State’s College of Business. In the series, successful entrepreneurs share their experience and knowledge in starting their own business and offer advice to future business owners. Presenters offer a unique look into the challenges and rewards of small business ownership and participants have an opportunity to obtain expert information and network with successful business owners.
At the behest of Dr. Cooper Johnson, chair of Entrepreneurship in Business Technology, Azar, a Greenville native and 1987 Delta State graduate, spent the hour sharing his journey and experiences as a singer, songwriter, producer, and publisher. He talked about his days at Delta State as a student and how he transitioned into the music industry after he graduated with a degree in business administration. Azar shared some of the tough decisions he had to make, how he had to deal with mistakes made along the way, and what some of the factors were to his success today. He encouraged current and future entrepreneurs to learn every aspect of their business and to network as much as possible. Azar’s presentation was well received; several students asked questions and even stayed afterwards to visit with him.
